Q&A with Venicia Solomons, Cloud Security Architect @ Carlsberg Group

Thanks so much for taking the time to speak with us, Venicia! Firstly, please introduce yourself!

My name is Venicia Solomons and I am a Lead Cloud Security Architect at the Carlsberg Group.

What are you looking forward to at European Women in Technology?

I am looking forward to gaining knowledge from all the industry leading women who will be sharing insights at the conference, and meeting more like minded women in tech.

What can attendees expect from your session?

Attendees can look forward to gaining practical insights into securing hybrid and multi-cloud environments, and learning more about the threat landscape in the cloud computing space.

When you think about our theme for 2023, The New Frontier, what excites you about the future in tech, business and/or leadership?

The New Frontier excites me, because we will be speaking about revolutionary concepts, within a supportive community of women, all sharing their diverse levels of knowledge, views and opinions. Technology is an integral part of our lives, and what was seemingly unreachable to the everyday person, is now a requirement for them to know. The shift is exciting!

What would you say to your younger self about pursuing a career in tech and the future of women in tech?

One simple sentence: It is not your level of knowledge that matters in the conversation, it is the unique view that you will share on how to solve the problem that is valued.

What do you see as the biggest challenge currently facing women in technology?

There are still too few use cases for creating visibility and awareness for girls and young women early on in life, on the possibility of a very lucrative career in tech. Resulting in women entering much later and lagging behind their male counterparts with knowledge and confidence. If we can contribute as a community to ensuring this enablement happens earlier, we will progress in leaps and bounds.

European Women in Tech is built on community; what advice would you give to our attendees on building your network and furthering your presence?

Be open to exploring new conversations, and placing yourself into the uncomfortable spot to introduce yourself first. Make the most of connecting intentionally with the people you identify in your space in tech before or on the days of the conference, and make sure to attend all networking events and have fun!
