The Resilience of Women in Tech

Resilience is defined as the capacity to withstand and recover quickly from difficulties. There is great power to be found in resilience and it can serve women right across the tech ecosystem on an individual basis, in terms of building and implementing technology and also on a company-wide basis.

Women in tech have been demonstrating the meaning of resilience since long before the pandemic, but despite our collective strength, according to recent report from McKinsey women have been 1.8X more likely than men to have lost their jobs during the pandemic. This fact, coupled with the painful reality that women are still significantly underrepresented in the tech industry, is a clear indicator of the importance of resilience to the individual.

European Women in Technology 2022 will provide attendees with leading career development content and valuable connections to ensure that delegates will come away with the practical tools needed to maximise career resilience. Part of this can be overcoming personal challenges and we will be looking at wellness and how to balance the pressures of work with individual wellbeing. Lastly, we have found over the years that one of the ultimate ways to help our audience increase their resilience, is to provide them with empowering and inspiring content from the industry’s leading women; we have carefully curated the best voices in the sector to reenergise, reinvigorate and restore your ambition, passion and energy.

Even the biggest and most-renowned tech companies have struggled with system outages and cyber breaches in the last 2 years – we can all think of an example of an iconic tech brand suffering a hack or system malfunction. Ensuring that the tech we use internally and that we build for customers is resilient, is not just a nice-to-have, it is now an absolute requirement in order to successfully operate in the tech sector. Externally, the market demands flawless platforms, products and services that function without fail, and internally, the operational tech underpinning your business must not let you down.

From a reputation standpoint, cyber breaches can be terminal for businesses, and products renowned for outages and malfunctioning, will be dropped quickly by customers. Tech resilience is a business imperative for so many reasons and Women in Tech will deliver pragmatic insight on this topic to our audience, so they can return to the workplace with strategies to deliver bulletproof tech. In addition to this, leading B2B vendors will be present in the exhibition area for attendees to find the suppliers they need to maximise technical resilience.

The power and importance of resilience also extends to companies as a whole. Almost every business in the world has been impacted one way or another by COVID-19, with the most common challenge being the instant and total requirement for entire workforces to operate remotely as well as the closure of all non-essential retail, hospitality, travel and leisure. Business models have been challenged to their maximum limits, companies have had to increase (or completely pivot to) online business models and the digital transformation of companies was accelerated at breakneck pace. For companies to grow and succeed, they must be designed and operated to maximise resilience to withstand massive shocks, of which many are predicted to be on the horizon.

We will also be discussing the importance that diversity plays in resilience for many reasons, not least owing to the variety of experience and opinion that diverse voices bring to the table. To compliment the market-leading content on building and maintaining resilient structures, Women in Tech will also connect attendees with the best suppliers in this space to support executives in their mission to toughen up company structures and successfully implement digital transformation.

Our belief is that resilient team members from diverse backgrounds, building and implementing resilient tech, for resilient companies, is the key to driving the tech sector forwards successfully and we demand that women are at the forefront of the post-pandemic iteration of the industry. As such, it is our mission to support the Women in Tech community with the very best possible content and connections to help our audience, through the power of resilience, to redefine what it means to be a woman in tech in 2022.
