“You can’t be what you can’t see”, is a saying we are all familiar with. Unfortunately, due to the IT gender gap, girls have very few opportunities to meet female role models in technical roles. In this interactive workshop we will discuss the latest insights from scientific research on the root causes of the IT gender gap and explore what it takes to be an effective role model.

You’ll also practice what we preach: by the end of the workshop you will have done several speed date rounds in which you have presented yourself as a role model.

Session Key Takeaways:

  • Understanding the Gap: Gain a deeper insight into the scientific research on the root causes of the IT gender gap, illuminating the societal and systemic barriers that discourage girls from pursuing careers in technology.
  • Becoming a Beacon: Learn the qualities and actions that define an effective role model in tech, including how to showcase your achievements and experiences in a way that resonates with and encourages young women.
  • Practical Role-Modeling Skills: Engage in speed dating rounds to practice presenting yourself as a role model, enhancing your ability to communicate your journey and impact in tech effectively to inspire the next generation.

This session is for… anyone in the tech industry who aspires to inspire and support young women in their journey into IT. Whether you’re already in a technical role or looking to make a difference, this session offers the tools and confidence to become a pivotal role model for future tech enthusiasts.
